Hypnosis is very similar to a guided meditation, in which you allow yourself to be guided into a state of deep relaxation, while remaining awake, aware and in control.

Once you’re in a deeply relaxed state, you’re then able to tap into and communicate with your unconscious mind through suggestions given by the hypnotherapist.

These suggestions are designed to help attain specific goals that you determine prior to the session.

Will I be under the hypnotherapist’s “power”?

No. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or values.

The hypnotherapist is simply there to enable you to relax deeply and focus on what you want to achieve.

What if I can’t go into hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we all go into everyday without thinking about it. Driving a car on “automatic pilot”, reading a book, listening to music, watching tv or absorbed in your favourite hobby are all examples of being in a trance state.

So, everyone can go into hypnosis although the depth will naturally vary from person to person.

Will I be asleep during hypnotherapy?

No. Although you feel deeply relaxed, you remain conscious, alert, and aware of everything that is happening throughout the session.

You might like to think of hypnosis as the self-talk or visualisation that an athlete or an actor goes through before a performance in order to reduce stress and remain calm and focussed.
