Autumn is the season in which you can often feel a little depressed, lethargic, and indecisive.
The ancient Chinese discovered that autumn relates to the lungs and large intestine.
You can regulate the intestines, tone the lungs, cleanse the blood, and increase stamina by emphasising the following foods in your diet during the season:
As the lungs and large intestine are nourished, you’ll notice that your thinking becomes clearer, you’ll have more energy and feel more optimistic as well as more connected to life and people.
With the seasonal change from late summer to autumn, we tend towards heartier and richer dishes.
A little more sea salt and oil, which warms the body, is used, along with fewer raw foods. Salads are lightly boiled, and vegetables are cut into larger chunks for longer cooking.
Rice, which is harvested around this time, is the most suitable grain.
Stews, deep-fried vegetables, soups, and longer sauteeing dishes are all ideal ways to get in tune with the season.

In the ancient 5-Element theory, Autumn relates to the Metal element which includes the Large Intestine and Lungs meridians.
When the Lung Meridian is functioning well, we feel more optimistic, joyful and trusting in ourselves and others.
Lung Meridian Point 7 (LU 7) is located under the tip of the forefinger when interlocked with thumb of other hand.
Shiatsu Point Therapy
Using the thumb or finger apply pressure until you feel the soreness in the point.

Recipe – Wheat-free Carrot Cookies
* 3/4 cup rolled oats
Dry roast the roll oats, then dry roast the flours lightly.
Mix all ingredients and add just enough water to shape the dough into cookies.
Put the cookies on an oily baking dish.
Bake at 180C (350F) for 30 minutes.
Yoga Pose for Autumn – Cat Pose
Kneel on your hands and knees with feet slightly apart.
Inhale deeply, curve the upper chest while bringing the head up and keeping the lower back flat.
On the exhale, round the whole of the back, bringing the head down.
Repeat four times
Bach Flower Remedy – Aspen
Aspen is the remedy for feeling afraid for no particular reason. This may include a sense of foreboding, uneasiness, anxiety or terror that something terrible is going to happen.
Often such fear stems from an unconscious belief that they can not feel secure or trust in others.
It is often a good remedy to use with children who are afraid of the dark because their imaginations can tend to run wild.
General dosage is 4 – 5drops under the tongue at least 3 times a day, or whenever feeling afraid or insecure.
Lung Meridian Meditation
Imagine yourself standing on a beach, just before dawn. You can feel the coolness of the sea and almost touch the silence.
It is still dark and there is a tingling in your body,and an expectation in the air around you. It is as if everything in the world is standing still, waiting and holding its breath.
Your eyes are closed and darkness is all around you.
Breathe in deeply and imagine that you are waiting for someone you love to appear. Feel a sense of excitement, expectation, and hope.
Let this feeling grow stronger as you imagine everything starting to grow lighter, so that you sense the energy of the sea, air, sand, and rocks around you.
As you exhale, feel the darkness beginning to change as it retreats from the light.
Continue breathing in the light and breathing out whatever remains of the dark. Feel your feet becoming warmer, and let that warmth penetrate into your legs, moving upward to your hips and abdomen. Feel the energy rising as you continue to breathe in the light and breathe out the dark.
Let it move into your solar plexus and then your heart. Finally let it fill your lungs, neck and face turning into a bright white light.
You are glowing all over, and with that glow comes an understanding, that all things are part of creation, and share equally in that creation.
There can never be any loss or grieving, only the ever changing cycle of life. Feel yourself totally trusting and believing in this cycle, for this is what makes the world go round, and the sun rise within all of us everyday.
Remember this feeling of balance and harmony. Then allow yourself in your own time to slowly come back into your body.
Aromatherapy Essential Oils – Geranium
Essential Oils Application
Bath: Use 10-15 drops in a tub of water and soak in it for 15 minutes.
Massage: Blend between 1% and 3% of essential oil with a carrier oil of your choice such as jojoba, almond, peach, apricot, soyabean, sesame, or vegetable oils.

Inhalation: Place a few drops of essential oil in an oil burner or small bowl of boiling water to freshen the air and create a special atmosphere.
Compress: Add 5 drops of essential oil to 200 mls of warm water. Place cloth in the water then wring out and lay over affected area for a few minutes.
